John’s involvement with photography has lasted for more than a quarter of a century, although schooled in the use of film John embraced the digital age very early on. He describes himself as a discerning photographer who sees digital imaging as a tool rather than a box of tricks, a photographer whose images are linked by a natural instinct for subject arrangement and attention to detail. His approach to photography is spontaneous – seeking to recapture for the viewer the same mood and atmosphere that drew him to the subject in the first place.
As an enthusiastic exhibitor, John has been fortunate in having many of his images accepted into British Photographic Exhibitions .
In October, 2011 John was awarded his fifth British Photographic Exhibition Crown Award (BPE5*), having gained more than three hundred acceptances in UK National Exhibitions. In December, 2010 he was awarded a distinction from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (DPAGB) and shortly after (March, 2011) his Excellence distinction with the International Federation of Photographic Art (EFIAP).
John is the founder member of the DAPA GROUP, a small but growing group of photographers, who share a passion for image making. The group caters for the more experienced photographer whose work covers a wide variety of subject matter and styles. In January, 2008, DAPA Group joined the Midland Counties Photographic Federation (MCPF), which is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB), making DAPA Group the first UK “Internet Only” photography group to do so.
John also has a passion for digital infrared photography and is the founder member of the Infrared Photographic Society.
The society is open to all interested photographers worldwide, in which they can exhibit and discuss their creations, both openly and freely with others. To coincide with the societies launch, John published the, “Digital Infrared Photography Book”, which combines visual awareness with technical expertise.
